On August 3, 1876 the first of a series of distance tests of the telephone was made to the A. Wallace Ellis General Store in this community.  Standing in the store, Alexander Graham Bell heard his Uncle David Bell's voice from the Dominion Telegraph Office five miles away (8km) in downtown Brantford.
